Captario and Fraunhofer-Chalmers Centre Start Collaboration in AI and Machine Learning

Fraunhofer-Chalmers Center and Captario will co-operate to develop advanced methods in AI and machine learning to take advantage of external information from a variety of data sources. The information will provide input to models and analyses in Captario SUM™ and support strategic decision-making in drug development.

The project is designed to replace the manual and inefficient search for input with modern technology. The methods that will be analyzed and developed within the project fall mainly under the machine learning area natural languange processing (NLP), which is the part of machine learning that deals with analysis and interpretation of human language.

"Joining forces with the exceptional expertise and experience that FCC brings will leverage the internal competencies at Captario in a perfect way. It will enable the creation of cutting-edge features benefitting future users of Captario SUM."

Stig-Johan Wiklund

Chief Scientific Officer, Captario

The project was granted financial support from the Vastra Gotaland region on 11 June and will start on 26 August 2020.

Fraunhofer-Chalmers Centre (FCC)

The Fraunhofer-Chalmers Centre for Industrial Mathematics (FCC) was founded by Chalmers University of Technology and Fraunhofer to promote and conduct mathematical research for the benefit of industry and government. The FCC conducts research and development in close collaboration with universities and other scientific and industrial organizations and promotes the use of mathematical models, methods and results in industrial activities. Since its inception in 2001, the FCC has completed over 500 industrial and public projects and successfully collaborated with over 160 companies in various industries. At the center, experts work in e.g. systems engineering and data analysis, optimization, statistics, numerical analysis and software development. In recent years, AI and machine learning have accounted for an increasing share of the centre's operations, and the FCC is involved in several major investments in the area, such as Chalmers AI Research Center, AI Innovation of Sweden, and the Fraunhofer Centre for Machine Learning. The FCC's role in the project is as ML and AI experts.
